How to find us?
The ceramics studio is located at Franzeninkatu 22, right next to Torkkelinmäki. On the same small square, you can also find places like Green Hippo, Skiffer, and Bar 10.
The best way to get there is by metro or tram.
Hakaniemi and Sörnäinen metro stations are less than a 10-minute walk away, and trams 1, 3, 9, and 6 also stop nearby.
If you're coming by car, allow a few minutes to find parking; there are often spaces available around the corner on Agricolankuja.

Accessibility
Unfortunately, the studio is split over two levels.
The studio space is on the ground floor, and a few steps up are the shelf spaces and WC. The doorways are typically narrow for the building's era, about 75 cm wide.
If you need assistance, please contact us in advance at studio@clayhem.fi so we can find a solution.
Frequently Asked
If you have any further questions, please send us a message: studio@clayhem.fi
Clayhem is a modern ceramics studio that offers its members a space to express their creativity through clay. In addition to the open studio available for monthly members, we also offer beginner, advanced, and masterclass courses. As a bonus, you’ll find an inspiring community in the heart of beautiful Kallio.
Clayhem’s first studio is located in Kallio, Helsinki, with excellent public transport connections, at Franzeninkatu 22. Our goal is to open several more locations in the future!
Clayhem monthly members can work at the ceramics studio on their own schedule whenever the studio is open. At the moment, no booking system is needed, as the space can accommodate around 35 makers at once. If the studio gets too busy, we’ll introduce a reservation system.
Membership also includes a personal shelf space, access to shared tools, and basic glazes (white, transparent, and pink). A small fee is charged for bisque and glaze firings. Clay and glazes can be ordered through a group order, delivered directly to Clayhem.
You can! If you’d like to pay for a course or monthly pass using Edered, Smartum, or Epassi, first check in our online store that there’s still space available. Then pay for your chosen product through the service, and send us a screenshot of the transaction to studio@clayhem.fi so we can reserve your spot.
Please note that we unfortunately cannot accept physical vouchers — only the digital versions of these employee benefit payments.
Anyone aged 16 or older who’s excited about ceramics is welcome. Monthly members should already have basic skills in ceramics and glazing — either from a course taken elsewhere or after completing a Clayhem course. We’ll also be hosting special family days for children later in the autumn. For more information, please contact: studio@clayhem.fi
Absolutely! We’ll be happy to prepare a proposal for you: studio@clayhem.fi
We offer a wide range of ceramic courses. For beginners, we recommend our introductory classes. In addition, we have various themed and technique-based courses coming up. We’re always happy to hear your course suggestions — feel free to email us at
Of course! The course is a great way to test your enthusiasm, and it’s a perfect starting point for continuing as a monthly member.
Only if they are high-fire pieces. Using the wrong type of clay or glaze often causes the firing to fail, and in that case, the maker is liable for any damage to other items in the kiln as well.
Services
Memberships
As a monthly member, you can work with ceramics whenever the studio is open. (Our current opening hours are 8:00–22:00, Monday to Sunday.)
In addition to our beautiful space, you’ll have access to tools, basic glazes and recycled clay. Kerasil also delivers members’ clay orders directly to the studio every other week.
Our opening hours are some of the longest in the city, and for example, we have nine wheels in total. But the very best part of our studio is the community. There’s always someone willing to help, and if you prefer to focus quietly on your own work, that’s perfectly fine too.
Our studio manager, the wonderfully warm-hearted ceramic artist Elina Sallinen, supports members and takes care of all firings. The studio is always full of happy people — and we’d love for you to join us.Warm welcome!

A ceramics workshop for your team at the lovely Clayhem?

Getting started with ceramics at Clayhem’s Kallio studio is easy
If you already know the basics of wheel throwing, hand building and working with clay, you can join the studio as a member. With a monthly pass, you can come in and create independently whenever it suits your schedule. Our doors are also open to beginners!
If you’re excited about ceramics but starting from scratch, we offer an introductory course as well as several technique-focused continuation courses. We recommend beginning with a course if you’re new to the craft.
All courses and monthly passes are available in our course store.
The first step: Clayhem’s basic course – Ceramics for beginners
You don’t need to master pinching or sgraffito on your very first try — we’ll teach you! One of the best things about working with clay is how quickly your own style starts to show after just a few technique classes.
Clayhem’s beginners’ course helps you learn the essential foundations of ceramics. Our teachers are experienced and inspiring ceramic designers: Elina Sallinen, Sami Rinne and Danielle Yukari. After the hand-building beginners’ course, it’s easy to move on to the other two techniques. Our slip casting course and wheel throwing course are both popular next steps at Clayhem’s Kallio studio.
Our courses fill up quickly, but don’t worry if you don’t see an available spot right now — we open new courses all the time. We also announce new courses and studio news on Instagram, so make sure to follow us at @clay_hem.
The second step: Clayhem membership
When the clay starts to respond and the coil technique feels like second nature, we recommend becoming a member. There’s an old studio truth: the best way to grow in ceramics is simply by making more. We want to offer our members the freedom to create in our modern studio in Kallio, Helsinki. A monthly membership lets you work with clay at your own pace and on your own schedule – without hurry. Or in a hurry, if that’s your style.
Clayhem memberships are sold in one-month and multi-month packages, and you can choose the option that suits you best. As a member, you can access the studio during normal opening hours, store your pieces on your own shelf, use our basic glazes, and freely use all shared tools and equipment. Clay and additional glazes are also available for purchase at the studio. We charge a small fee for firing, and the prices can be found in the Studio section.
You can purchase your membership in our course store, and it will be activated by emailing our studio manager, Elina Sallinen, at studio@clayhem.fi.

How Clayhem Got Started
"I visited The Pottery Studio in Los Angeles, and its founder, Marshall Blair, showed me around and shared their story. I realized that I too wanted to be part of a community like this."
